Naxos Town is marked by the Portara, the monumental gateway of an unfinished ancient temple standing beside the harbour. Behind it, the Venetian Kastro district climbs through arches, old houses, museums, and Catholic and Orthodox heritage. The Archaeological Museum and nearby ancient sites place the island within a much longer Cycladic story.
Inland Naxos is green and mountainous. Halki has neoclassical houses and citron traditions, Apeiranthos is known for marble-paved lanes and small museums, and Filoti sits below Mount Zas. Ancient marble kouroi remain in rural landscapes, while beaches such as Agios Prokopios and Plaka stretch along the western coast.
Paros brings a complementary character. Paroikia contains the important Panagia Ekatontapiliani church complex, an archaeological museum, and lanes around the old settlement. Naousa’s fishing harbour, Venetian castle remains, and nearby coves are atmospheric outside peak hours. Lefkes preserves island architecture among hills, and the ancient marble quarries connect Paros to sculpture throughout the classical world.
